Editing and Making Tiles

Extended Tilesets

First of all it is very important that you understand how extended tilesets
work. If you want to make your own tiles for your maps then you should
create your own tileset and associate your maps with it.

The main tileset for Meteor is called "main.til", there is not need for
you to edit this tileset, doing so causes problems because you are then
asking other people to overwrite their "main.til" with yours when you
pass on your maps. If they have also modified their "main.til" then
problems may arise.

An extended tileset is basically your own local tileset that you can
distribute with your maps.

How to Make an Extended Tileset

- Launch the Tile Editor
- Start a new tileset
- Save the new tileset under a different names than "main.til", lets say for
  example "fred.til"
- Then go to the Map Editor and start your map

Once your map is started click on the "Advanced Map Properties" button on
the Map Editor toolbar. Then click on the "Extended Tileset" property and
select your tileset. You will then notice that when you select a tile
using the Tile Selector there are not 2048 tiles to choose from rather
than the standard 1024. The second 1024 (i.e. all tiles from 1024 to 2047)
are your own and you can edit them how you feel fit without altering
"main.til".

Just don't forget to distribute your new tileset with your maps!

Tip: When selecting a tile from the Map Editor you can right click on any
tile and select "Edit" from the menu to edit that tile directly. This
means that you do not have to exit the Map Editor to edit your tiles.
